This weekend, I took some of my students up to a camp put on by the California Conference for Equality and Justice. The Camp is called Building Bridges and aims to do just that, build bridges between all racial and ethnic groups, genders, religions, sexual orientations, cultures, etc.
This is my second time taking students, and although the camp is for them, I always get something out of it. I am in awe of how much all the students at the camp have experienced in their short lives and how much hurt there still is in this world. I am inspired by how much they grow and change in one weekend. I am proud of how much they support and help each other through this tough process.
I have the unique privilege to watch minds open right in front of my eyes. I feel so fortunate to be apart of the process of leading teenagers to the place where they start to see the world differently. I know once they are there, there is no stopping their minds from expanding.
